Cannolo is one of the most known Sicilian specialities. It is made with a crunchy shell shaped like a pipe, in different sizes and filled with a cream made with sheep ricotta.
You can taste them also with other ingredients like chopped pistachio or pure dark chocolate chips.
The combination of the smooth ricotta cream and the crunchy shell create a unique flavour.
This pastry is made all over Sicily and garnished differently depending on the city where it is made. In Palermo, for instance, they put two cherries on both sides and orange zest.
